About Stu Wakeling – North Island Expert & Owner
Stu Wakeling is the exclusive John Lockley dog breeder for New Zealand’s North Island, bringing decades of hands-on experience with working hunting dogs.
Stu has spent his life farming, with an eight-year stint shearing in both New Zealand and Australia, where he managed packs of sheep and pig dogs. His true passion is pig hunting, bordering on obsession, and he thrives on developing young dogs into skilled hunting partners with strong drive, excellent tracking, and reliable stopping ability.
He hunts most weekends alongside his sons, Mike and Aaron, who share his enthusiasm for Lockley dogs. The current team of Lockley dogs Stu works with demonstrates exceptional hunt drive, medium-range tracking skills, and strong stopping ability, making them outstanding companions for hunters across the North Island.
